Resources

SPEB’s focus shifted in 2020 when a worldwide pandemic created immense change within the school system and beyond. Our communities faced additional challenges in meeting their basic needs, supporting their students with remote learning, and continuing their advocacy journeys. We became active in resource distribution efforts throughout the South King County area, focusing specifically on helping our families access the resources they needed most.

The Success Program

SPEB’s tutoring program provides multifaceted opportunities for BIPOC and immigrant young people in South King County to both improve academic achievement and grow socially, emotionally, and physically, all while being supported by a multigenerational community focused on shining a light on the brilliance and potential of our youth. Activities include math and reading tutoring, summer soccer play, parent engagement, leadership opportunities for adolescent youth to tutor younger students, and three-generation community activities. We implement our program year-round so that there is continuity for the students and no risk of learning loss over holiday breaks (especially over the long summer break).

learning Institute

Our Institute program bridges partnerships through our 9-month leadership development program for youth, family, community, and educational leaders, in order to improve the well-being of students, especially students of color, through systems change, advocacy, and action.
